Privacy Policy
Your data supports your rental journey — not advertising
Last updated 6 October 2026
priv8rent does not sell personal data or use it for third-party advertising. This policy explains what we collect, why we use it, who can receive it, how long it is kept and the choices available to you.
1. Scope and responsibility
This policy applies to priv8rent accounts, listings, searches, messages, applications, agreements, payment records and support interactions in Australia. Before public launch, the operating entity, Australian business details and privacy contact must be added here.
2. Information we collect
We collect account and contact details; profile and household preferences; listing and property information; searches and shortlists; messages, applications and references; rental evidence you choose to upload; agreements and signatures; payment status and provider references; reports, support correspondence, security records and essential technical information needed to deliver the service.
3. Sensitive rental evidence
Identity, income and rental-history documents are private and visible only to the applicant and the relevant listing owner or agent. We do not ask for bond disputes, tenancy legal action, social-media passwords, protected attributes, full bank account details or unrelated banking transactions. Applicants should redact account numbers and unrelated transactions before upload.
4. Why we use information
We use information to provide accounts and requested content; match renters and listings; process applications; enable landlord or agent assessment; support messages and agreements; facilitate payments; send requested alerts; prevent fraud and abuse; resolve reports and disputes; comply with law; and improve reliability where optional measurement has been accepted.
5. Consent and lawful handling
Application submission includes a declaration and privacy acknowledgement. Contacting nominated employers, landlords or referees requires explicit consent. Keeping a copy of identity evidence requires separate consent. Consent may be withdrawn for future handling, although completed transactions and legal obligations may require limited retention.
6. Sharing and service providers
Information is shared with another user only when needed for a requested marketplace action, such as sending an application to its host. Trusted providers process limited data for hosting, authentication, private storage, AI matching, email and secure payments. They may process information in Australia or overseas under contractual and security controls. We may also disclose information where required by law or to prevent serious threats or fraud.
7. Payments
Payment providers receive the details needed to process payments, payouts, refunds and fraud checks. priv8rent stores payment status and provider references, not full card numbers. Bond money goes to the host, who is responsible for lodging it with the relevant authority.
8. Cookies and local storage
Essential storage keeps sign-in, security, privacy choices and requested preferences working. It cannot be disabled through the notice because the requested service would not function. Optional measurement is disabled unless you choose Accept optional. We do not use advertising trackers.
9. Email alerts
Saved-search alerts are opt-in and can be paused or removed in your account. App-email providers apply delivery, suppression and unsubscribe controls. Authentication and legally required account messages may still be sent where necessary.
10. Retention and deletion
We keep account, agreement, transaction and security records only while needed for the service, disputes and Australian legal obligations. Unsuccessful application evidence should be deleted when no longer needed and may be subject to an automated retention period. Deletion requests do not override records we must retain by law.
11. Security
We use access controls, private storage and time-limited document links. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Users must protect their sign-in details and notify priv8rent promptly of suspected misuse.
12. Access, correction and complaints
You may update profile information in your account and request access, correction or deletion where available under Australian privacy law. Privacy complaints will be investigated and responded to within a reasonable period. If unresolved, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or the relevant state or territory regulator.
13. Children and discrimination
priv8rent is not intended for children to create accounts independently. Rental decisions must comply with anti-discrimination law. Landlords and agents must not use information to discriminate unlawfully.
14. Changes and contact
Material changes will be notified through the service where reasonable. The formal privacy contact and operating entity details must be added before public launch.
